The BBC is considering selling adverts on some of its podcasts, for UK listeners on sites such as Apple and Spotify.< /p>< p class="ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10">"Adverts are the norm" on commercial platforms, BBC Studios said, and they would "generate more revenue to support the BBC, the rights payers of license, our suppliers and rights holders."
But BBC Sounds listeners would still hear the same content without interruption.
In December, license fees increased by less than expected, leaving an estimated funding gap of £90 million.
And with increasing criticism of the BBC suggesting that a universal fee no longer makes sense in a digital environment In the age of abundant choice, there has been speculation that its funding model could change.
BBC's small drama, comedy and factual podcasts will carry adverts from the end of 2024. p>
And if it's successful, they'll start appearing on more high-profile podcasts like Desert Island Discs and The Archers.
