Ben Cox: Leicestershire sign long-serving wicketkeeper from Worcestershire

 Ben Cox made a combined total of 368 appearances for the Pears, with just over 9,000 runs and 613 dismissals

Cox will first be loaned out to the Foxes for their final four league games in the county this season.

The 31-year-old local player is currently in his benefit year at New Road, being a Pears regular since his debut as a 17-year-old schoolboy in September 2009.

He made part of the T20 Blast and Worcestershire One-Day Cup squads in 2023.

But he doesn't played only two championships. matches since taking a break from playing in May 2022 - and the Pears have only offered him a new cue ball contract.

Since then, Gareth Roderick has become the club's preferred first-choice goalkeeper - and Cox's existing contract expires at the end of the summer.

Worcestershire are currently second in the Championship Division Two, leading a congested field of clubs that also includes 23-member Leicestershire points behind but with one game less.

Cox, who is the Foxes' second rookie for the run after Umar Amin, is set to make his debut for the One-Day Cup runners-up at home to Gloucestershire on Sunday in a rematch of Tuesday's semi-final victory at Grace Road.

"Leaving Worcestershire is a bittersweet moment for me," Cox said. "This club has been my cricket ground for 22 years and I am immensely grateful for the opportunities, experiences, successes and memories I have had here.

"I am excited about the new challenge ahead of me and in particular the return to all three formats, but Worcestershire will always hold a special place in my heart."< p class="" data-reactid=".1gi8i54zmgm.0.0.0.1.$paragraph-11">Following the departures of Moeen Ali and Ed Barnard to Warwickshire at the end of last season, Cox is the fifth Pears player to announce 2024 exit - all to East Midlands.

England T20 international Pat Brown has signed for Derbyshire, while fellow playmakers Josh Tongue and Dillion Pennington join Nottinghamshire, who have also signed middle batting order Jack Haynes.

But Worcestershire have signed three new signings for 2024: Lancashire slugger Rob Jones and all-rounders Ethan Brookes and Tom Taylor.
