Benzinga employees pick 2022 World Cup winners: favorite teams and how far Team USA will progress

The 2022 World Cup kicks off with the first of 64 matches on Sunday, November 20. The tournament will see 32 teams compete to win the 2022 World Cup. Here's a look at who Benzinga employees support, how far they see the United States progressing and who they think can win the tournament.

Benzinga picks its favourites: Although based in Detroit, Benzinga has employees from all over the world who work in various segments of the company's business. That said, a survey was sent out to Benzinga employees to see which teams they would support for the 2022 World Cup.

Here are some of the best answers:

Chris Katje, Editor: "Rooting for the Netherlands, where my family is from, and also for the United States who are back after missing out on the 2018 World Cup ."

Stefan Rohacek, Business Development Intern: "Rooting for the US and Belgium for my family."

Andrew Weiss, Head of B2C Subscriptions: "Rooting for USA and Belgium. USA and (Kevin) De Bruyne is my favorite player.

Michael Feehan, Social Media Team: "Rooting for Argentina because everyone I live with is Argentinian and Ireland didn't qualify for reasons we don't 'will not approach."

Zoltan Suranyi, Director of Outreach and Exclusives: "Rooting for Brazil and USA, because I have a lot of Brazilian friends and they deserve to win another World Cup world. I live in the United States and I want Team USA to succeed."

Jake Crandall, Customer Success: "USA. I've been watching USA National Team games since I was a kid. It hurts not to be in the World Cup in 2018."

Ryan Faloona, Director of Customer Success: "USA. My home nation, and I love a good underdog story."

Jose Rodrigo Safdiye, Director of Benzinga Crypto Newsdesk and Contributed Content: "Argentina, because it's my country and we are the best team."

Team USA Predictions: The USA Men's National Team has odds of +13,000 to win the 2022 World Cup at DraftKings Inc DKNG. This is the fifteenth best odds of the 32 teams in the tournament.

Team USA is in Group B with England, Wales and Iran, considered by many to be the "group of death". Team USA pays +500 to win the group, with England being the favorites at -280. The group-breaking US team pays at odds of -105, slightly ahead of Wales at +100. The top two teams qualify for the elimination matches.

Outside of the group stage, Team USA pays +400 to reach the quarter-finals and +1200 to reach the semi-finals.

Of the Bezinga employees who responded, 100% see Team USA moving from Group B. In total, 63% of respondents see Team USA losing in their first game playoff after the group stage. Reaching the quarter-finals is the answer given by 38% of respondents.

The ceiling given by the respondents was to reach the quarter-finals.

"I think we have a good chance of qualifying for the group stages and the quarter-finals. Having the potential to qualify for the round of 16, but also having the second youngest team in the Cup, so interested to see how we play on the bigger stage,” Crandall said.

Faloona, like many surveyed, sees Team USA running into hurdles in the road after the group stage.

"I think they can get past the group stage, but they're unlikely to make it past that," Faloona said.
