Block.one and its CEO become major shareholders of Silvergate Capital
Block.one, the original developer of the EOSIO blockchain platform, bought Silvergate, which bought the Diem stablecoin project from Meta, joined.
NewBrendan Blumer, CEO of Block.one, which developed the EOSIO blockchain platform and EOS coin (EOS), took a stake in Silvergate Capital, the holding company of Silvergate Bank, a crypto-fiat gateway network designed for financial institutions, according to an SEC filing. This document, dated November 23, listed November 16 as the date of the transaction.
The purchase of nearly 3 million shares represents 9.27% of Silvergate shares. Blumer personally purchased 571,351 shares and Block.one purchased 2,363,186 shares. According to CNN, this deal will make them Silvergate's largest shareholder.
