A toddler has lost his finger after allegedly getting it caught in the conveyor belt of a supermarket checkout.

The five-year-old boy, called Thiago, was waiting at the checkout with his parents when he allegedly got his hands on the belt. Within seconds, his hand was jammed, leaving him with serious injuries to his left hand, including the loss of one of his fingers.

The three of them were in a supermarket near Bogota, Colombia. Speaking to local media, his mother said: "No one answered us, the insurer did not speak to us. I had to help my son, take him to the hospital because no one here provided us with first aid."

Due to the severity of his injuries, Thiago had to be transferred to Meissen hospital in the capital, to undergo x-rays and tests. She went on to tell local media: “We arrived at the hospital, they did an x-ray. The surgeon told me that the finger had to be amputated because the machine had completely cut it off. He already can't sleep because of the pain and says he can't hold a pencil to write anymore."

In June, an airplane passenger lost part of her leg when she was engulfed by a moving conveyor belt in a nightmarish scene at a Bangkok airport. The unnamed tourist was due to be traveling on a domestic flight from Don Mueang International Airport in Bangkok, Thailand when she tripped over a pink suitcase on the plane around 8:30 a.m.

She fell and her leg was caught in the treadmill, the mechanism ripping through muscles, tendons and bones.
