Here are some explanations for our fellow New Yorkers who are not Brazilians.

Baile Funk is a dance party in the favelas of Rio (and the music that goes with it). MPB is Música Popular Brasileira, Brazilian pop music. Candomblé is the Brazilian form of the three main African diaspora religions that developed in the Americas. Samba comes from there. Argentine Tango comes from Candomblé through the Uruguayan Candombe tradition, to Milonga, to Tango. We are mixtures of each other. The samba is a Brazilian party tradition that is most expressed in the carnival. Cuban Rumba, Puerto Rican Bomba, Colombian Cumbia, Venezuelan Tambor, and Peruvian Festejo are similar traditions in different regions.
