Breaking down the character classes played by the cast of Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves [Comic-Con]

By July 21, 2022 12:27 a.m. EDT

A Dungeons & Dragons game is only as good as the group of heroes at the center of the story. And by extension, a Dungeons & Dragons story is only as good as this set. And when you assemble this party, you want variety: tough warriors up front, squishy mages in the back, and a deadly rogue coming when you least expect it. The world's most famous role-playing game is designed to promote a balanced game where each character's weaknesses are enhanced by another character's strength. You don't just choose a character class; this decision defines everything about them.

The next movie, "Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves" seems to know that. I was invited to attend a "Tavern Experience" preview of the film at this year's San Diego Comic-Con and while the whole event was a lot of fun, it was the new footage that sent my brain nerd in overdrive. Various screens throughout the darkened fantasy exhibit/pub (where bright green liquor flows like water) featured our first public look (some footage shown at CinemaCon) at the character of the cast (including Chris Pine , Michelle Rodriguez and Hugh Grant). And because I've played Dungeons & Dragons a major part of my life now, I found myself less interested in doing cool things like drinking and socializing at the very cool Paramount pub had dropped in the middle of downtown San Diego and more interested in figuring out which character classes each actor was performing. I am that person. I'm sorry.

So let's take a look! Until official images are released, my photos from the event will have to do. And while I encourage you to put on your fantasy detective hat, they made it easy for us. Each character was also accompanied by its class symbol.

Chris Pine is... The Bard! Jacob Room

In perhaps the most surprising reveal of all, dashing front man and handsome hunk Chris Pine doesn't play a noble fighter or a cunning ranger. He plays a bard, a character class from Dungeons & Dragons who, while usable with weapons, uses music as his primary attack and defense. A bard uses music like spells, clouding the minds of enemies, inspiring allies, healing wounds, creating illusions, and generally providing support on all fronts. Pine, known for his smoldering on-screen charm, is an inspired cast here – what is a traveling bard if not a charming sleazy looking for his next payday in a tavern full of violent mercenaries for hire. ?
