Brentford striker Toney charged with 232 betting offenses by FA

Ivan Toney has been charged with 232 alleged breaches of Football Association betting rules over a period of nearly four years, the governing body has confirmed.

The Brentford striker has until November 24 to respond after previously saying he was cooperating with an investigation into any alleged breaches.

Toney, an England hopeful for this year's World Cup, was notably omitted from Gareth Southgate's squad when he was announced last week, with Newcastle United's Callum Wilson instead.

Having been called up by the Three Lions in September without winning a first cap, Toney's case will continue at home while the national team are absent at Qatar 2022.

"Ivan Toney has been charged with misconduct in relation to alleged breaches of FA betting rules," read an official FA statement released on Wednesday.

"The Brentford FC striker is alleged to have breached FA Rule E8 232 times between February 25, 2017 and January 23, 2021.

"Ivan Toney has until Thursday, November 24, 2022 to respond."

Toney has been in fine form for Brentford this season, scoring 10 top-flight goals in 14 appearances so far in the 2022-23 Premier League campaign.

That includes a brace in the Bees' last game before the World Cup break, as he struck twice to stun champions Manchester City in a 2-1 victory.
