British mother mauled to death by abandoned pit bull she rescued days before attack in Spain

A Briton, whose identity has not yet been revealed, was fatally attacked by a pit bull she had taken in.

The 67-year-old man had found the dog abandoned in a field near the city of Valencia, on the southeast coast of Spain.

After taking in the dog, she had only been in his possession for a few days when the dog suddenly turned on her and mauled her to death in her own home.

The incident shocked the local Spanish community and authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the attack.

Around 2:00 p.m. on Friday, emergency services were called to the scene after screams were heard during the attack on the pit bull.

The Civil Guard was among the authorities who responded to the call for help.

"In order for the emergency services to help the woman, the regulation firearm was used, killing the animal," the Civil Guard said.

'The agents of the Civil Guard and the medical services managed to stabilize her in order to proceed with her transfer to the nearest medical center.'

After being admitted to hospital in critical condition, the woman tragically succumbed to her injuries and died.

According to reports, the woman lived alone and had two daughters who resided abroad.
