A Bronze Age settlement was discovered by crews working to build 99 houses.

The developers were working on the site of a former residential unit in Crosshaven, County Cork, which is being demolished to make way for new homes.

The contractors immediately contacted Cork County Council and the scene was closed for excavation.

The construction site is based near Templebreedy Church, and the area has been cordoned off, CorkBeo reports.

CorkBeo understands that the settlement dates from the later Bronze Age era, which is located above the village of Crosshaven on a high point, overlooking Church Bay.

Cork County Council's Department of Archeology has launched inquiries into the find and a report is due to be published (stock image)
