A 50-year-old Briton has died after the hit-and-run in Tenerife which took place last Sunday

A Briton has tragically died in Tenerife after a hit and run that also injured her mother.

The woman was mowed down in the horrific car crash and later died in hospital as police launched a manhunt for the driver after Sunday's incident.

The two men were hit when a white van drove up the sidewalk they had borrowed from Miguel de Adona, in the south of the island.

The incident happened around 8:30 p.m. Sunday.

Today it emerged that the younger of the two women died in hospital on Thursday from her injuries.

She reportedly suffered serious head injuries when she was rushed to a hospital in the island's capital, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, after being beaten.

The elderly woman, believed to be in her seventies, has already been discharged from hospital after suffering moderate rib trauma.

Police are still pursuing the driver, who stopped briefly at the scene before speeding off after seeing the victims lying injured on the ground.

Local media reported that he punched the two women from behind, and it is not yet known whether the women were vacationing on the island or living there.

Civil Guard agents are working with local police to find the man responsible.
