A businessman was savagely shot dead by thugs wielding machetes yesterday morning in a shocking attack in broad daylight.

The victim, a man in his 40s, was stabbed multiple times in a car park in Dublin's Finglas area moments after leaving a local gymnasium, reports the Irish Mirror.

He was seriously injured in the chest and face in the assault, and was later rushed to Mater Hospital in the city.

A number of local residents could be seen rushing to the aid of the victim, with a photo taken in the street showing them tending to his stab wounds as he sat in a chair.

Another take shortly after captured the emergency response, with people in uniform surrounding him as he remained in the chair.

Large amounts of blood can be seen on his chest, and it was reported that the man was still conscious after the attack.

A local source speaking to the Irish Mirror said: "It's absolutely shocking, he was walking back to his car when he was attacked. It happened in the morning.

"There were a lot of people going about their business where it happened. The attackers jumped out of a car and carried out the assault before fleeing. People can't believe it. "

Gardai sealed off the scene yesterday and confirmed they are conducting a technical review.

No arrests have been made, and officers are now appealing for witnesses or drivers with dash cam footage taken on the main street of Finglas.

A spokesperson said: 'No arrests have been made at this stage of the ongoing investigation.

“Gardai is appealing for all witnesses to this incident to come forward. Any road users or pedestrians who may have camera footage (including dash cams) and who were moving in Finglas main street area between 10am and 11am are requested to make these images available to Gardaí.
