Cool Celtic or Scottish cosplay? Alan Cumming's Strong Looks at American Traitors Rated

"I'm like a less butch Agatha Christie in a fabulous outfit," says Alan Cumming in an early episode of The Traitors US TV show. The outfit in question? A navy and green tartan suit paired with a neon green knit tie and gold and green glitter brooch.

The show, which originally launched at the late last year in the UK, was presented by Claudia Winkleman and became an instant hit, being streamed over 28 million times on BBC iPlayer. This week saw the release of an American version on BBC Three. Spread across 10 episodes, there are two big format changes. The first: the arrival of Cumming, dressed in a dapper outfit, as host. The second: candidates from the world of reality TV, selected from shows such as The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.

In a 19th century castle in Alness, north of Inverness, Cumming wears a different tartan costume for each episode, covering each section of the color wheel. There are purple reds, azure blues and mossy greens. High-shine oxfords, slippers, casual socks, brightly colored knitted scarves, berets, a pocket watch and jeweled brooches are also present. He even regularly accessorizes with a riff on a traditional Scottish fly plaid. This is usually excess tartan from a kilt pinned over the left shoulder. For those unfamiliar, Cumming has set the bar for what tourists expect to see when they step off the plane at Inverness Airport.
