Daedalic announced today that they are postponing their next title, The Lord of the Rings: Gollum, to an indefinite future date. He doesn't give a specific reason, other than that he wants to "provide the best possible experience".

The publisher originally planned Gollum to launch on September 1st. He didn't specify how long the delay would be, as "a few months" could mean anything from three to seven or more - meaning it's possible Gollum will join the ranks of fully delayed 2022 games. The delay announcement on Twitter reads: "We will update you on the exact timing in the near future."

Gollum is set in the time when the little gremlin didn't have the One Ring. It will apparently follow his escape from Barad-dur and his escape through the elven realm of Mirkwood. On the gameplay side, it's a stealth title, because Gollum cannot face the orcs of Mordor in single combat. Daedalic released a gameplay trailer earlier this month, which got mixed reactions from fans.

Once delayed, the game will also lose sync with the new Lord of the Rings series, The Rings of Power. The Amazon Prime show is set to launch on September 2. Gollum is expected to launch (at some point) on PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and Switch.
