Nadhim Zahawi says he would 'offer Boris a job' in cabinet

Outgoing Prime Minister Boris Johnson may not be out of a job after September 5 if Nadhim Zahawi succeeds him as the new Prime Minister.

Mr. Zahawi, one of eight Tories to pass the first ballot, said he would offer Mr Johnson a cabinet post "if he wishes to serve".

Just a few weeks ago, Mr Johnson was overheard complaining to reporters that journalists made more money than politicians when traveling abroad.

The two men have known each other for about 30 years, with Mr. Zahawi appearing regularly in the media to support Mr. Johnson's leadership.

Mr. Zahawi told LBC: "If he wants to be in the cabinet, he was probably the most important prime minister in history. He delivered Brexit, he got us through a global pandemic..."

The former Education Secretary was loyal to Mr Johnson until the very end of the outgoing Prime Minister's leadership.

Hours after accepting his new role in Mr Johnson's caretaker government, Mr Zahawi stabbed Mr Johnson in the back and urged him to resign.

In a bid to further distance himself from Mr Johnson's crumbling premiership, Mr Zahawi has told Brits he will not quit his government job because the role is too important.
