Chelsea 'explore' Kylian Mbappe transfer as Mauricio Pochettino risks losing three contracts

Chelsea have reportedly 'explored' the possibility of signing Kylian Mbappe this summer to hand Mauricio Pochettino a marquee signing in his first summer window. Reports in France claim that the Blues are keenly interested in Mbappe, whose future with Paris Saint-Germain looks bleak.

The 24-year-old star is rumored to want to leave on a free transfer next summer when his contract with the Parisians expires. However, PSG want to recoup at least some of the nearly £140million they paid for the Frenchman in 2017.

Mbappe is now locked in a bitter confrontation with his club over his future. PSG refused to name him in their squad for their next pre-season tour.

Real Madrid are heavily linked with the striker's move, but multiple reports claim the Spanish giants would rather wait to seal a free transfer deal in 12 months.

It is now claimed that Chelsea are ready to hijack that move, with at least one other Premier League club interested in signing Mbappe. According to a French publication, the Blues are 'interested' in Mbappe and 'studying the feasibility' of signing the 2018 World Cup winner.

Chelsea also have rival interests from Saudi Arabia, where Al-Hilal, backed by the Public Investment Fund, are keen to offer the former Monaco ace a two-year, £347million deal. However, Pochettino can remain confident of signing Mbappe - a former Chelsea academy trialist.

A deal for the France captain, however, could see at least three other transfers cancelled. The Blues are reportedly interested in signing Moises Caicedo from Brighton, Paulo Dybala from Roma and another centre-back.

Given Mbappe would cost Chelsea well over £100m, it's likely they would have to scrap their plans to improve their midfield and defence. A new midfielder was still likely to arrive at Stamford Bridge this summer, with Caicedo in heavy demand.

New defensive reinforcements could also be signed after Wesley Fofana was sent off with a serious knee injury. The 22-year-old was injured in the early weeks of Chelsea's pre-season campaign.

According to the , Chelsea are considering bringing back former defender Marc Guehi. The English central defender joined Crystal Palace from Les Bleus two years ago.
