Chelsea 'set to sign' Bundesliga star for 'nearly €70m' after agreeing deal 'on their terms'

Fabrizio Romano reports that Chelsea are now 'close to signing' French striker Christopher Nkunku from Bundesliga club RB Leipzig for 'almost 70 million euros'.

The former PSG striker started in the last two seasons when he shone for German side RB Leipzig.

The French giants will regret leaving Nkunku in hindsight as he flourished in an RB Leipzig shirt.

Nkunku is capable of playing on both wings, but has often been used as a second striker this season.

He has been in the thick of the action for Leipzig this season as he has netted 17 goals and provided four assists in 23 appearances in all competitions.

The 25-year-old was expected to be a great player for France at the World Cup, but a knee injury ruled him out of the tournament.

Nkunku has been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League in recent years and last month it was claimed he had already passed a medical before moving to Chelsea.

Now Romano has confirmed that the transfer is close to being completed as 'a full deal is almost there'.

The transfer guru also revealed that Nkunku would cost €70m and explained how Chelsea managed to ensure the move was on 'their terms'.

"Now we can say they are close to signing Nkunku, they close the deal for summer 2023," Romano wrote for Caught Offside.

‘Everything is agreed on the player’s side, and has been for a long time. And there is also a verbal agreement between Chelsea and RB Leipzig. The relationship between these clubs is very good, and a full agreement is almost there.

“I was told that Chelsea would pay more than 60 million euros for Nkunku. As I said before, there were two ways for them to agree to this deal - they could trigger his release clause, or they could find some other type of structure to ensure they remained in the position stronger, and that's what happened.

"I've been told the fee will be around €70m and that gives them confidence that there's a deal in place and no other club can hijack the deal.

>

“It also allows Chelsea to pay on their own terms, rather than giving Leipzig the full fee at once. Now we just have to wait for the contracts to be signed, then it will be "Let's go!"

'This is an exciting signing, approved by the board and by manager Graham Potter. Chelsea will also recruit new board members as part of this major rebuilding job at Stamford Bridge. '
