Disabled people have been killed by the government's failure to deal with Covid, Coronation Street's first disabled actor said today.

Cherylee Houston cried saying "we're not considered human", adding, "It makes me want to cry every time".

Cherylee, 48, who played Izzy Armstrong on the ITV soap opera for 12 years, has slammed Tory ministers for failing to provide a British Sign Language interpreter at daily press conferences.

This despite the fact that six out of 10 people who have died from the virus are disabled.

"People were dying because of this lack of information," she told Mirror's Disabled Britain: Doing it for Ourselves event at the Labor conference. "It was just outrageous that people were left to die."

Shadow Disability Minister Vicky Foxcroft said she asked for the BSL "numerous" times during daily briefings in 2020.

"It's not rocket science; you'd be doing it right if you went out there and did it," the Labor MP said.

BSL was supplied by the BBC but not in the £2.6m No10 briefing room.

A group of 276 Deaf people sued the government over the policy on Friday.(SEPT23)

Cherylee has been using a wheelchair since she was 23 due to a rare tissue disorder, Ehlers Danlos type III hypermobility.

She has starred in The Bill, Holby City, Emmerdale and the cult comedy series Little Britain.
