Watching a one-hour special this Christmas will cost almost double last year's price due to soaring electricity bills, according to a new analysis.

The cost of running a TV has fallen from 1.2p per hour to 2p per hour, according to Labor Party research.

This means that over the year the average television usage costs families £22.63, almost £10 more than the £13.50 in 2021.

Annual costs are based on an average of 3.1 hours of television per day.

The BBC will air special episodes for many of its favorite shows, including Strictly Come Dancing, Call the Midwife, Michael McIntyre's Christmas Wheel and Motherland.

A special program will also be broadcast for His Majesty the King's first Christmas speech to the Nation.

On Channel 4, Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith will be back in the tent for the Bake Off Festive Special.

ITV will present the Royal Variety Performance, a one-off special edition of Britain's Got Talent showcasing the best acts of magic, and Gino's Italian Christmas feast.

The House of Commons Library calculated hourly costs by finding the power consumption of different appliances and multiplying it by the average cost of electricity in December last year and this year.
