Kimika Forbes in the Trinidad goal was called upon to make two big saves in the opening 2 minutes, the first on a driven shot from Maria Paula Salas who was a constant threat down the right.
In the 15th minute, Melissa Herrera beat her defender, returning the ball to Raquel Rodriguez in front of goal who fired over. Costa Rica was closing in on the kill.

Five minutes later, Trinidad received the decisive blow that all but ended the game when midfielder Kedie Johnson picked up his second yellow card and was sent off. It was a cruel cut and a questionable decision.

Just before half-time, Costa Rica scored a third. Another attack down the right found its way to Granados whose shot deflected leaving Forbes blocked. It really wasn't Trinidad's day.
