County Championship: Surrey take big lead over Somerset despite rain

Tom Latham returns to the locker room after being away for 99
LV= County Championship Division One, Cooper Associates County Ground, Taunton (Day Two) Somerset 170: Kohler-Cadmore 59; Lawes 4-41, J Overton 2-21, Worrall 2-41 Surrey 368: Latham 99, Jacks 99, Smith 44; Henry 6-80, Green 3-39 198 Game Scoreboard.

Matt Henry finished with 6-80, the 22nd time the New Zealand tailor has taken five or more wickets in a first-class innings.

Tea was taken as the final wicket fell and rain which had been menacing for much of the afternoon arrived to end the day's game, much to the relief of the Somerset batsmen, who should have faced testing conditions under the lights.

Visitors started the day on 138- 4, 32 points behind, with Latham on 67 and Jacks 13. Both played conservatively against Henry and Craig Overton, with Latham content to let whatever was headed away from the stump.

Jacks picked up the tempo with three fours in an over from Henry and the stick looked increasingly simple on a benign throw in the second day, the ball having lost its hardness.

Century position 23 overs and the task of Somerset has increased when setter Kasey Aldridge was sent off with side tension, after throwing four balls from the 52nd over.

Latham had been rock solid moving under a tonne but a light downpour caused a brief interruption and the first ball of the rebound ten minutes later resulted in his fall as he went to cut a delivery off-spinner Shoaib Bashir and slipped slightly where Overton held a juggling hold on the third attempt.
