A young couple found dead in their hostel room while vacationing at a World Heritage Site in Argentina stayed in their room for at least two days before being discovered.

The couple - named Sofia Macarena Robledo, 27, and Jose Eduardo Rojas, 28 - were discovered unresponsively by the owners of the hostel and their son.

A post-mortem examination revealed they died of carbon monoxide poisoning and had been dead for at least 48 hours, local media in the Humahuaca resort town reported.

The couple - from Buenos Aires - were last seen alive on October 5.

The hostel owners and their son have been charged with double manslaughter but currently remain out on bail, according to local media.

They found Robledo and Rojas dead Friday at noon, October 7, after knocking on the door several times without getting an answer.

After finally gaining access inside the room, they reportedly found the couple lying in bed showing no vital signs.

They tried several times to revive them to no avail, then called the emergency services for help.
