Crew members were forced to restrain a passenger on a flight to JFK after he continued to knock on the cockpit door.

The unruly passenger, who has not been named, was flying from Warsaw, Poland on a LOT Polish Airlines flight to JFK, New York, when he got up and tried to smash a path in the cockpit.

According to eyewitnesses, the man started screaming and became aggressive when he was denied access to the cockpit.

The quick-thinking passengers and staff quickly pinned the man to the ground where he was held until the flight landed, a witness told NBC New York.

A crew member was shot in the face during the scuffle as eyewitnesses were stunned by the man's behavior - after claiming he had not been drinking alcohol.

The flight managed to land "without incident" at JFK airport at 8:30 p.m., according to the Federal Aviation Administration, after staff members and passengers managed to hold the man down.

Port Authority cops were called to the plane at Gate 9 of Terminal 7, and the suspect was taken into custody following the flight test.

The suspect was later taken to hospital for evaluation, authorities said, who were concerned about his erratic behavior.

It is unclear whether the man will face charges as the FBI investigates the incident.
