A father has been arrested by police, accused of suffocating his five-year-old son to death and sending photos of his body to his ex-wife, all because she found a new love.

Gabriel Enrique Gonzales Cubillos left the body of his son, Gabriel Esteban, in a hotel room in Cundinamarca Department, central Colombia after the horrific murder that staff are to uncover.

The 50-year-old man was stopped at a traffic checkpoint where local media reported that he tried to bribe the police to let him through.

Police say they believe he committed the horror of killing everyone because his wife found a new partner.

Cubillos allegedly kidnapped his son on Sunday, October 2, before being accused of gruesomely killing him in the early hours of the next morning.

He would then have sent Consuelo Rodriguez, his ex, a photograph of the body of little Gabriel and would have confessed to the murder.

The WhatsApp message reportedly read: "He didn't suffer. Now you can have fun alone with Edilson and Wesly without Tricitico let alone me. Congratulations."

The identities of the other people mentioned in his post are unclear at this time.
