Danny DeVito Reveals 'It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia' Creators Pranked Him By Writing Fake Episode

Danny DeVito is nothing if not a good player. His role as Frank Reynolds on "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" saw him crawling naked off a couch, painting himself blue, and doing a host of other depraved activities in pursuit of comedy. But even he has his limits. In a new interview with to promote his FXX animated series "Little Demon," DeVito revealed the one time the show's creators sent him a script that allegedly asked him to go overboard.

"One time they put me in a situation where I was in jail being raped by various inmates and I was at my wit's end," DeVito said. "It wasn't recent. It was a while ago. Somewhere in the middle. And I got a script that my assistant said, 'Oh, guys, Charlie [Day] and Glenn [Howerton] and Rob [McElhenney] called this morning.' I was going to work that day. We were going to read to the end. He said, 'Well, they're changing it. this one. Then you should read it. And I thought, 'Really? It's about 10 in the morning.' I said, 'Well, I'm going to work at 1:00.' read it. They want you to read it.'”

With these ominous instructions, DeVito read the script and was shocked by the provocative storyline.

"So I read it and I go get a whore and I get arrested and I get raped in jail, in a shower," he said. “Then they throw me in the dungeon, the big dungeon. I get raped by everyone and the cops. And they kept going back to the bar, and then Frank was getting raped. And I go back to the bar, Frank would get raped. And I said, 'What is it, man? Call my lawyer. And then I got to the end of the script. And the last guy who nailed me bends over. Well Frank is now lying on the ground, [his] face is on the ground. He got fucked by all the... And the guy leans over and says, "April Fool's Day, bitch." And I realized it was April 1st. They wrote this scenario to break my balls. »

Once he realized it was a joke, DeVito's anger quickly subsided and the show's creative team became a happy family once again.

"It's love," he said. "They love me. I called them. They were all on roll call, laughing their heads off. And then we went and put on another crazy show."
