One of the upcoming games for September is the curious free-to-play title Deathverse: Let it Die. Launching on September 28, the survival arena title offers players melee brawl gameplay in a battle royale style. It's not exactly the same as its predecessor, but at least it has the same kind of quirky humor. GamesBeat got to see a preview of the game a few weeks ago, which gave us a general overview of the world and gameplay.

Deathverse is, as its subtitle suggests, a sequel to 2016's free-to-play arena title Let It Die, and it's set thousands of years after the events of that game. players are contestants on the game show "Death Jamboree" (which honestly should have been the title of the game), where they must compete for bloodthirsty viewers. It's a bizarre, twisted world with as much violence as color, and the player can customize their avatar to best fit into the world.

During the preview, gameplay felt like a mix of melee and platforming, with players trying to kill each other as befits a battle royale. The Arena is a playground of possibilities, with more features around it than we could time. What the gameplay might lack in originality, it makes up for in style, at least in the footage we viewed. It remains to be seen if the styling will compensate enough in the finished product.

One of the game's twists on conventional battle royale/survival gameplay is the addition of hunters. These AI-controlled NPCs jump into the arena at certain times to try and eliminate any surviving players. The wise player will be able to use hunters to their advantage, using them to eliminate competition without undue risk to themselves. It's PvPvE, with a very focused and deadly "E" component.
