Defense Secretary Ben Wallace endorses Liz Truss for next PM with a jab at Rishi Sunak

Liz Truss' offer for No 10 received a major endorsement from Defense Secretary Ben Wallace, who also criticized his rival Rishi Sunak for resigning from government.

Mr. Wallace, who is popular among Tory members and has consistently topped polls ranking cabinet members, claimed the Foreign Secretary is the "only candidate" with the requisite experience.

Writing, he said, "I've sat with her in cabinet, bilateral meetings and international summits. She's holding her own. Above all, she's straight and means what she says."

The minister, who remained loyal to the outgoing Prime Minister, said that although Mr Sunak was a “competent minister”, Mr Johnson’s successor was needed from “day one” to know their way in the international community “as well as in the Treasury".

He also insisted that outgoing ministers could have used the "mechanism" of the 1922 Committee of Conservatives to force the resignation of the Prime Minister by a vote of confidence.
