Disappointment is the end of HALLOWEEN!

Hello horror fans and welcome to the House of Macleod movie review corner! Today we take a look at Halloween Ends by David Gordon Green (1h 51m,18,2022) starring Jamie Lee Curtis, Andi Matichak, James Jude Courtney, Will Patton, Rohan Campbell and Kyle Richards. Written by Brad Logan, Chris Bernier, Danny McBride and David Gordon Green, Halloween Ends is the culmination of the revitalized franchise trilogy that began with Halloween in 2018 and s is continued in Halloween Kills in 2021. The film opens with a teenage babysitter named Corey who has the daunting task of babysitting a spoiled rich kid named Jeremy. During a game of hide and seek, asshole Jeremy locks Corey in an attic at the top of some very tall stairs. While trying to get out, Corey quickly kicks the door, accidentally sending little Jeremy falling over the railing. He hits the ground like a dart just as his parents walk through the door. Oops. Corey then has to suck it up and live with being called a child killer and all sorts of things for the next three years. Shame.

Speaking of time jumps, it's been four years since the events of Halloween Kills and the people of Haddonfield still haven't built a bridge and crossed it. Myers, on the other hand, sort of disappeared after throwing the smackdown at that angry mob at the end of Kills and now he's hanging out in a sewer, becoming a ninja turtle, but more about that later. His nemesis and hero of these tales, however, Laurie Strode does her best to live her best life with her granddaughter Allyson. She is also writing her memoirs, titled "Stalkers, Saviors, and Saw-Wen", which is a nice little Easter egg in itself as "Saw-Wen" is the Celtic festival that eventually became the Halloween we know and love. The more you know... Anyway, Corey, the babysitter from the start of the movie, had a hard time, he took shit from local bullies and during an altercation with them, he hurt himself. This is where he meets Laurie and eventually Allyson with whom he develops a relationship. Now, being the nice person that Allyson is inherently, she invites Corey to a Halloween party where he inexplicably bumps into Jeremy's mother attending the party for some reason. Did she go there specifically to give Corey some shit for giving her son the Javelin style or was she just there for the two-for-one schnapps? Who knows, I guess it's not the authors. Anyway, Corey leaves the party because of, you know, stress and comes home to run into the kids who bullied him. This scene bothered me a lot because well, Corey took it as something that meows. He is thrown off a bridge and if that wasn't enough to ruin his day, he is dragged into the sewers where Michael relaxes. Nearly losing his life to the notorious masked killer, however, Michael senses this boy is different and lets him go leading to a team of lackluster proportions and a final battle that must be seen to be disappointed.

I could go on and on about the subplot about Corey and Allyson's romance and how he turns to the dark side and becomes a tag team partner with the most feared villain ever. Haddonfield has ever seen, but to be honest, it bores me to death. It reminded me of Joker if Joker wasn't very well done. I sat down at Halloween Ends ready for the finale to top off all the finales. The epic conclusion to a forty-year battle between Strode and Myers only for her to beat him in about five to ten minutes with minimal effort. Instead, we are treated to Michael living in a sewer. How? that's the first thing I thought of. How? Did he eat rats? Does his rage sustain him? To say this was a total mistreatment of a legendary horror icon is a huge understatement.

I expected a lot more from Halloween Ends. What was the time jump? Why not continue where the last movie left off? They had everything at the end of Kills, the townspeople had reached a state of paranoia that was driving them crazy, and Laurie had just lost her daughter giving her rage and motivation, it made no sense from a point of view narrative view to jump forward and what bothers me even more is that it took FOUR writers to make this awful choice! Why make Myers himself a supporting character? He's barely in the movie for god's sake and when he's in the movie his kills get watered down and so on. In fact, all kills are. Well, I say "everything" but this DJ kill was pretty cool. I guess they "Shock...
