Disney+ Schedule December 12-18: New TV Shows and Movies

The National Treasure franchise debuts its first TV series on Disney+ from December 12-18.

On Wednesday, December 14, the streaming service (sign up for Disney+ here) will release the first two episodes of National Treasure: Edge of History. The first episode of the National Treasure series is directed by Mira Nair (Queen of Katwe) from a script written by original screenwriters Marianne and Cormac Wibberley. The Disney+ series stars Lisette Alexis as Jess, Catherine Zeta-Jones (Prodigal Son) as Billie, Zuri Reed (Flatbush Misdemeanors) as Tasha, Lyndon Smith (Parenthood) as FBI Agent Ross, Jake Austin Walker (DC's Stargirl) as Liam, Antonio Cipriano (Jagged Little Pill) as Oren, and Jordan Rodrigues (Light as a Feather) as Ethan.

Described as an expansion of the Nicolas Cage-led film franchise, "the series is intended to explore current issues of identity, community, historical authorship and patriotism told from the perspective of Jess Morales, a young twenty-year-old DREAMer who, along with her diverse group of friends, embarks on the adventure of a lifetime to uncover her mysterious family history and rescue a lost Pan Am treasure,” reads the logline.

The series is created by producer of the original films Jerry Bruckheimer in association with the Wibberleys, who are all executive producers. It is a Jerry Bruckheimer Television production with ABC Signature as the studio. The list of executive producers includes the director of the first film Jon Turteltaub, Jonathan Littman, KristieAnne Reed and Rick Muirragui, who is also a screenwriter.
