Elden Ring Colosseum Mode Update Now Live

Elden Ring has seen a few updates here and there since its launch in February, but it just received its biggest yet. FromSoftware has released a new 1.08 update which adds new PvP Coliseums, as well as some additional hairstyles.

These arenas are located in Limgrave, Caelid and Leyndell and each has its own set of rules. The Limgrave has two modes: United Combat and Combat Ordeal. The former is a bit like a deathmatch as two teams fight timed battles and can respawn after death. The team with the most points wins. Combat Ordeal is a free-for-all version of the same mode.

Leyndell features Duel Mode where two players compete against each other and cannot respawn. The Caelid Arena has all three modes, but fighters can summon Spirit Ashes during battles. Each also has different rules regarding spirit ashes and flasks. Players can use party passwords to party or compete and can set the number of Ternis that can enter the ring.

While the Coliseums make up the bulk of the update, this patch also added five new hairstyles and a host of balance changes, as seen in the official notes. New hairstyles can be equipped at the Round Table mirror.

The Colosseum is also not a complete surprise since a modder was able to find them in the game shortly after launch. The arenas datamined in the video are in the same locations as those in update 1.08. These early images also show that Leyndell's has a similar - but slightly different - interior to that found in patch 1.08.

Some also speculate that this big free add-on is a precursor to a more appropriate expansion announcement at The Game Awards on December 8th. And while Geoff Keighley's Summer Game Fest kicked off Elden Ring gameplay in 2021, nothing has been announced for the 2022 awards show.
