Emma Raducanu announces new coach two months after sudden split from Dmitry Tursunov

Emma Raducanu has taken on a new manager on a trial basis ahead of the 2023 season after splitting with Dmitry Tursunov in October. The British No.1 has been without a coach since the Russian quit, but has now appointed Sebastian Sachs, who is an experienced WTA coach despite being only 30 - younger than many players on the tour. /p>

Raducanu has a new coach in his corner following his shock split with Tursunov, who was the fourth coach the 20-year-old has parted ways with in the space of 14 months. The world number 75 has started a trial with Sachs, a relatively young trainer who has plenty of WTA experience having worked with Belinda Bencic and Victoria Azarenka.

The news comes as the Briton prepares to play her first match in more than three months at the Mubadala World Tennis Championship exhibition on Friday, where she will face world number 2 Ons Jabeur. Raducanu had been without a coach since Tursunov opted to end their partnership in October, but has since been devoting time to her work at the gym after teaming up with former Andy Murray strength coach Jez Green. /p>

But she is back to work under an experienced coach with the 2023 season fast approaching. Sachs has an impressive resume, working with the world No. 12 on her run to Olympic gold in Tokyo last year, also coaching the Swiss player when she was upset by a world No. 150 Raducanu at the 2021 US Open, where the Briton eventually became the first qualifier to win a Grand Slam title.

It seems like a coincidence, as Bencic linked up with Tursunov days after the Russian's split with Raducanu was announced. The German coach has also worked with former world number 1 Victoria Azarenka as well as now retired Julia Goerges, helping her reach the top 10 in the world.

Sachs will be Raducanu's fifth coach in 18 months, as she worked with Nigel Sears on his Grand Slam debut at Wimbledon in 2021, where she reached week two as a wildcard ranked at world No. 338 . She then fired him to work with her youth coach Andrew Richardson, who was with the former world No. 10 during his historic run to the 2021 US Open title as the 150th qualifier.
