Emma Raducanu ruled out being a 'top five player for 20 years' by her own agent

Emma Raducanu's agent has given his thoughts on his future after going through a tough time following his historic US Open victory. The Briton became the only qualifier to win a Grand Slam title in 2021 but has since struggled to regain form and recently underwent three surgeries. But Max Eisenbud doesn't think his client will be a consistent top-five player and has instead encouraged her to do great things at the Majors again.

Raducanu made tennis history just under two years ago when she made it through qualifying to reach the US Open main draw, winning 10 matches in a row to lift the trophy. She went from No. 150 in the world to the top 25 and became an overnight sensation.

But the 20-year-old has reached the semi-final of a tournament only once since her unprecedented victory as she tried to find her feet on the professional circuit. Raducanu is now sidelined after undergoing surgery on both wrists and one ankle earlier this year, but her agent believes she can return to her Grand Slam-winning form once things calm down.

One thing he doesn't believe, however, is that she will be the type of player who can stay near the top of the leaderboard for 20 years. Speaking to , the IMG super agent backed the former world number 10 to figure things out.

"She skipped a lot of steps and a lot of experiences, so I'm not surprised by the ups and downs of tennis. I think she showed good tennis," he explained.

Reflecting on her special run at Flushing Meadows, he continued, "You don't accidentally win the US Open like she did, you have to be great to do what she did. And I think she'll settle down and things will get calmer for her and I think she'll make deeper runs and I think she'll win more Grand Slams when all is said and done."

But when it comes to ranking, Eisenbud had different ideas. “Do I think she will be in the top five in the world for 20 years? I don't think, I don't think she's that but I think she'll win more Grand Slams, I think she'll compete to be at the top when things calm down," he added.

For now, Raducanu will focus on his fitness so he can return to competition. The 20-year-old last played a game in April and recently returned to training for the first time, sharing some photos of herself on an exercise bike. She also signed up for the MGM Macau Tennis Masters exhibition in December.
