England have two players who must drop out as Harry Maguire stands tall in the United States draw

England and USA drew goalless in Friday's World Cup at Al Bayt Stadium. The Three Lions had entered the game hoping to build on their 6-2 win over Iran earlier in the week. But that didn't happen - and Express Sport will now look at four things we learned from the showdown.

Mount and Sterling need to be dropped

There is no denying that Mason Mount and Raheem Sterling are both superb footballers. They deserve to be in the England squad, although their form for Chelsea has been uncertain this season.

But they were poor for the Three Lions on Friday night and, while their selection is understandable, it's time for Gareth Southgate to play giving other players a chance instead.

Perhaps the change to a 4-2-3-1 formation would benefit England, with the arrival of Phil Foden.

Foden would be useful as a No10, especially with England struggling to create chances for their strikers, while Marcus Rashford looks like the perfect Sterling replacement.

Rashford is a fit man and, although Sterling scored against Iran, the Chelsea star is not.

While England were mediocre against the United States, they performed well at the back, despite threats from the Yanks on occasion.

And it was another good day at the office for Harry Maguire, the Manchester United star leading with authority and getting out of some tight spots.

He won three headers in a row in the second half at a time when England were in shock.

And it is certainly remarkable how different he is for his country rather than his club, having worked hard at United over the past 12 months.

There weren't too many positives in tonight's game, but Maguire was the biggest hit.

Southgate trusts its players. It's something he's said time and again since taking over from Sam Allardyce.

But when it comes to making replacements, sometimes it can be too slow.

It was another one of those nights. England really should have tinkered with their team at half-time, with the United States leading for long periods of the game in Qatar.

This is not the first time this accusation has been leveled at Southgate.

It was also too late to make substitutions in last summer's European Championships final, which cost his team dearly when Rashford, Bukayo Saka and Jadon Sancho missed the penalty spot.< /p>
