"Sometimes we get 16-18 players together so I think it's just a really good game to get the guys out of the rooms and keep us together and there's been a lot of socializing while playing this game.

"It was really beneficial, to be honest."

England players were given inflatables for fun in the pool, while Bukayo Saka testing his teammates' spelling on social media also created a positive vibe.

Yet Southgate, speaking after his side's 3-0 win over Senegal at the weekend, insisted the Blues had a lot more dangerous on their side than just the Paris Saint striker -Germain.

"Of course (Mbappe) is a world-class player and has already delivered great moments in this tournament and in previous tournaments," he said.

"But there's also, I think (Antoine) Griezmann now has over 70 consecutive games for France and I think he's a phenomenal player as well.

"We know Olivier Giroud so well and they have great young midfielders as well.

"So everywhere you look when we look at France at every age bracket, they have an incredible depth of talent in every position.
