England top scorer Ellen White to hang up her boots

August 25 - Ellen White, England's all-time leading goalscorer, has announced her retirement at the age of 33, saying all her "football dreams have come true" by winning Euro 2022.

White has scored 52 goals in 113 appearances for his country and is retiring in style after helping the Lionesses make history by winning the European Championship for the first time.

When England beat Germany in extra time at Wembley last month, they burst into tears.

"It was one of the hardest decisions of my life, but I know it's the right one for me," the Manchester City striker said.

"This decision has always been one I wanted to make on my terms. And it's time for me to say goodbye to football and see the next generation shine."

White didn't have her best tournament at Euro 2022 in terms of goalscoring, but England coach Sarina Wiegman described her as the 'perfect team player'.

"Ellen has given so much for England and we are all so proud of her," said Wiegman.

"I've only had the pleasure of working with her for a year, but her professionalism, work rate and finishing ability are world class!

"She has done an amazing job for the team this summer, she is the perfect team player and has helped young players find their way into international football.

"I already knew she was a great player, but I found an even better person. She will be missed, but I completely understand her decision to move in a new direction."

White's retirement was followed by that of midfielder Jill Scott, 35, the second most capped player (male or female) in English football history after a 16-year international career.< /p>
