Enola Holmes 2 trailer: Millie Bobby Brown returns as Sherlock Holmes' little sister in comedy mystery

Get a hint: Millie Bobby Brown is back as the detective younger sister of Sherlock Holmes (Henry Cavill) in 'Enola Holmes 2'.

The 2020 Netflix thriller sequel finds Enola (Brown) once again solving mysteries in 19th century London while trying to start her own detective agency. Based on Nancy Springer's book series, the "Enola Holmes" franchise also stars Helena Bonham Carter, David Thewlis, Louis Partridge, and "Dune" escapist Sharon Duncan-Brewster. The film will air on November 4.

'Stranger Things' star Brown is producing the film, which is directed by Harry Bradbeer and written by Jack Thorne, both returning for the sequel. The franchise "is maybe the most important moment of my career so far because it's something that I developed," Brown said. "It's gratifying," she added. “My age and gender never defined [my job], so everyone on set really respected me and heard me. It was such a great environment to be in.”

Director Bradbeer hinted that Enola's next adventure is a "grittier" story centered on "working class girls in a working class world", putting Enola "further away from her depth" as a detective and young adult. Bradbeer also praised Brown's "tremendous instinct" for the character, giving his thoughts on each draft script.

Brown previously revealed that she was once told she was "too mature" to be a child star before she booked "Stranger Things."

"Even as a youngster, I always felt like I didn't belong in every room I was in," Brown explained earlier this year. “I also have a little trouble with loneliness. I've always felt quite alone in a crowded room, like I was one of a kind, like no one ever really understood me. So I liked [playing] characters that people understood [and] people could relate to because I felt like no one could relate to Millie. »

These traits, however, only added depth to Enola's role. Kate Erbland of IndieWire wrote in the first film's review that "'Enola Holmes' doesn't just use her heroine as a cute way to nod to progressive thinking; it fully embraces a story that is, in her heart, deeply feminist."

Erbland concluded, "Along the way, it establishes Enola and its evolving world as both entertaining and instructive, a glimpse of a people and a place on the cusp of something better and better." bigger, and ready to follow every clue to get there."
