Every Zack Snyder Movie Ranked From Worst To Best

Zack Snyder followed up "Watchmen," an epic about naughty, twisted superheroes, with a cartoon about owls. This seemed counterproductive, as few of Snyder's existing fan base are the type to go and talk about animal cartoons, and anyone who wants to see an owl cartoon with their family might be put off by Snyder's name on it. However, until very recently, it remained his best film. From the producers of “Happy Feet,” an equally weird cute animal film with dark undertones directed by a famous action director (George Miller), it adapts the books by Kathryn Lasky.

Snyder's films often deal with the importance of legends in society, as well as the difference between how they are perceived and what they really are. In this case, the Owl Society has its own legends about a group of young adopted owls forced to seek help after being kidnapped and sent to an evil owl military school. The voice cast includes Snyder's most stunning ensemble to date, featuring Helen Mirren, Sam Neill, Miriam Margolyes, Richard Roxburgh, David Wenham, Geoffrey Rush, Hugo Weaving, Joel Edgerton and Abbie Cornish. It's also a much better use of 3D than "Man of Steel," where the editing and camera work was too frenetic to let the eyes adjust properly. In the animated world, Snyder created a rich immersion and nearly made a high fantasy epic...with owls.
