EXCLUSIVE: Gucci to Present Cosmogonie Show in Seoul in November

MILAN — Gucci takes its Cosmogonie show on the road.

The collection, which premiered in Puglia, Italy, in May, premieres in Korea at Gyeongbokgung Palace in Seoul on November 1, with new looks added by creative director Alessandro Michele. This is the first time the designer has held a fashion show in Korea.

Gyeongbokgung Palace is a key and historical landmark of Seoul built in 1395 during the Joseon Dynasty, in the aim to pay homage to the beauty of South Korea's cultural heritage.

In the 15th century, Gyeongbokgung Palace housed a highly regarded astronomy research center, including the Ganuidae , the Royal Observatory, making it an ideal place to showcase the astronomy-inspired Gucci Cosmogony collection.

The original Gucci Cosmogony collection was presented at Castel del Monte, the historic castle in the Italian region of Apulia which was built by Frederick II in the 1240s. For show, the castle, with its striking and unique geometric design and blending elements from Northern Europe, the Islamic and Swabian worlds and classical antiquity, was illuminated with images of ancient constellation maps and shooting stars.

In Seoul, Gucci is working closely with the Korea Cultural Heritage Administration to organize the show.

Over the years, Michele has chosen artistically and historically significant locations for his shows, including the Dia Art Foundation in New York City; the cloisters of Westminster Abbey in London; the Palatine Gallery of Palazzo Pitti in Florence; the Promenade Des Alyscamps in Arles; the Capitoline Museums in Rome and Hollywood Boulevard in Los Angeles.

As COVID-19 restrictions eased, several luxury brands embraced shows repeated. Gucci itself presented its Aria show in Shanghai in June last year. Louis Vuitton is planning a "spin-off" show for its spring 2023 men's collection on September 16 at Aranya Gold Coast, a resort town in Beidaihe two hours by train from Beijing.
