Fernando Alonso caught making a taunting gesture at Lewis Hamilton after Belgian GP crash

Fernando Alonso was spotted gesticulating in front of Lewis Hamilton moments after his crash at the Belgian Grand Prix. The Spaniard was filmed waving his finger at the wrecked Mercedes parked outside the corner of Blanchimont.

The pair made contact after Hamilton tried to sweep the outside to take second place at Les Combes. However, the Mercedes star mistimed his entry into the corner and slammed into the side of the Alpine.

Alonso's front wing hit Hamilton's right rear tire, sending him flying. Hamilton's race engineer told him to park the car just half a lap later to record his first retirement of the season.

Alonso's agitated moment came minutes after Alonso launched an angry tirade at Hamilton after the two met. Speaking on team radio, Alonso said: “Yeah, what an idiot! Closing the door from the outside.

"I mean, we had a mega start, but this guy only knows how to drive and start first." Hamilton took responsibility for the crash after the race, but appeared frustrated with Alonso's comments.

The seven-time champion even claimed he had no intention of discussing the accident with Alonso before the Dutch Grand Prix next weekend. He explained, "I don't really have an answer to that. I know that's how it goes in the heat of the moment.

"But it's nice to know how he feels about me in some way, better that it's out in the open, how he feels. Like I said, it wasn't intentional and I take responsibility for it. That's what adults do."

He added: "Looking at the footage he was in my blind spot and I didn't give him enough space so it was my fault today. I'm so sorry for the team "Whatever he said, I don't care. Like I said, it was my fault; I couldn't see him, actually - he was just in my blind spot."< /p>

Alonso was shocked that Hamilton accepted responsibility for the accident when speaking to the media. The two-time world champion admitted he was "frustrated at the time" but appeared more reserved after the race.

He commented, "I mean, I was surprised, and he's sure now has seen the incident and takes responsibility for it, which is obviously very nice of him. It was an incident in the first lap, nothing to say in it. The stewards, they said nothing because these are things that happen, especially in this corner.
