Warner Bros studio fire in Burbank extinguished after transformer explosion

UPDATE: A fire broke out on Friday after a transformer blew on the lot from the Warner Bros studio in Burbank was eliminated.

Burbank Fire Department Battalion Chief Dave Burke told Deadline that it was a transformer fire and that it was out. The first call came in at 1:38 p.m. PT, and the fire was brought under control within 30 minutes. No buildings were damaged and no injuries were reported.

Sources told Deadline that the power went out and there was footage of black smoke emanating from the terrain.

A WBD spokesperson told Deadline they are sending all staff home – it is true that most employees are on Fridays in the summer – just to be on the safe side. The spokesman said they were launching an investigation, but the fire is believed to have started after a transmitter exploded. He was located at one end of the field, ironically near his own fire station, and there were no injuries.

An email to all staff stated: "There has been a fire contained in a building on the main lot this afternoon. The fire is out and no injuries have been reported. Crews are assessing impacts to the buildings. Power to the lot has been shut down and is expected to be off for the next two hours. If you are still at work, please go home.”

Online images showed smoke billowing from behind the walls of the studio owned by Warner Bros. Discovery.

The news comes as the region prepares for its first major heat wave in a southerly up here sweet California summer. Temperatures in Burbank are expected to reach 90 degrees this weekend, while the Valleys around Los Angeles could reach triple digit levels.
