Many passengers have had their travel plans disrupted by the winter weather.

Over the weekend and today, heavy snowfall blanketed runways, train lines and highways, causing long delays for commuters and vacationers.

More than 100 flights due to serve UK airports have been canceled on Sunday and Monday so far, with Gatwick, Stansted, Luton, Manchester and London City airports among the worst affected.

Gatwick, Stansted and Manchester all had to close a runway, leading to huge passenger backlogs.

"Just got back from Gatwick after being there at 4am...nightmare", they wrote at 9.30am this morning.

Gatwick said on Twitter: "Snow and frost can cause disruption at the airport. Passengers are advised to check flight status with their airline - as well as local travel conditions - before departing for the airport."
