Ex-Venezuelan FA boss and cronies sanctioned for corruption

October 14 – A former president of the Venezuelan Football Federation (VFV) has been suspended by FIFA for five years and fined over $410,000 after being found guilty of financial corruption.

Laureano Gonzalez (pictured), who led the FVF between 2017 and 2020, has been sanctioned by FIFA's ethics committee for embezzlement and misuse of federation and FIFA funds through a "system of fictitious invoicing".

Gonzalez's offenses were related to his position on a FIFA-appointed normalization committee. Four other panel members were also disciplined.

Current FIFA Disciplinary Committee member Carlos Teran has been sentenced to a two-year suspension and a fine of CHF 10,000 for approving and accepting “undue pecuniary benefits in the form of additional monthly payments” .

Bernardo Anor Guillamon, Luis Eduardo Fernandez and Gilberto Velazco Ramirez were convicted of approving and accepting improper pecuniary benefits in the form of additional monthly payments and conflicts of interest, among other charges.

The one-year bans for all three were suspended for two-year probation periods.
