French journalist vows to sue Cameroon FA for defamation

December 14 – The Cameroon Football Federation (Fecafoot) is being sued by a French investigative journalist after the federation issued a statement accusing it of attempted blackmail and extortion.

Fecafoot announced last Friday that Romain Molina had requested €25,000 from its president, former international striker Samuel Eto'o, as a condition for publishing an article denouncing irregularities in Cameroonian football.

But Molina fired back, saying the extortion attempt came from someone impersonating him.

"The only time I spoke to Eto'o was in March - and the conversation I had was to warn him of cases of pedophilia at a major football academy in Cameroon", Molina told BBC Sport Africa.

"This so-called number pretending to be me is definitely not my number or my photo and the guy can't write French correctly - there are big mistakes."

"So it's scandalous because when you look at the FECAFOOT press release, they didn't say it's me but everyone will believe it's me. My lawyer will certainly sue because That's a big lie."
