Arsenal and Tottenham 'present' to scout €70m star - player 'subject to strong interest'

Arsenal, Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur were reportedly 'present' to scout Bayer Leverkusen striker Moussa Diaby in midweek.

The 23-year-old came through the ranks at PSG, but has been with Bayer Leverkusen since 2019.

PSG will probably regret letting Diaby leave the club when he was young, as he has shone in the Bundesliga in recent years.

The Frenchman enjoyed his best season to date last term, registering 13 goals and twelve assists for the German side in the league.

Diaby got off to a slow start this campaign but found his form mid-week. He got on the scoresheet as Leverkusen beat Atletico Madrid 2-0 in the Champions League group stage.

90min report that several Premier League clubs were 'in attendance' to scout the striker midweek.

Diaby is said to be the "subject of great interest" with Arsenal, Newcastle and Tottenham all watching him. Chelsea and Man City are also mentioned as clubs that had "representatives" watching him.

It was reported over the summer that Diaby was valued at around €70m and Leverkusen's sporting director - Simon Rolfes - insisted they wanted to keep him:

“No, no. Of course, we want to keep Moussa as long as possible,” Rolfes insisted.

"I know a lot of scouts sat on our stand during our games because we have a lot of interesting, exciting young players with great potential.

"So it's the same with Patrik Schick. We don't have any offers for him but we're not even looking for that at the moment. We'd like to keep him and play with him next year in Champions League."

Rolfes then suggested that Diaby's progress shows that Bayer Leverkusen are developing their young players well:

"When I see for example Moussa Diaby since his arrival three years ago compared to now in front of goal, it is not by chance that he scores more goals", added Rolfes.

"You can see it in training. He works on his finishing a lot. He missed a lot of goals a few years ago, also in training but now it's different. You can see our players' progress .”

One of Arsenal's priorities over the summer was to sign a new winger, but they weren't able to land one. As well as Diaby, they were also linked with Wolves star Pedro Neto.

Tottenham probably need a player like Diaby a little less than their rivals. They currently have a choice of Richarlison, Son Heung-Min and Dejan Kulusevski in wide areas.

Newcastle, meanwhile, has always been linked to Diaby. Fabrizio Romano even says the Magpies are 'obsessed' with the talented winger.
