France sanctions 76 players and coaches for betting on football

December 20 – French football authorities have sanctioned 76 players, coaches and managers for breaching the sports betting ban during the 2020-2021 season.

"These offenses are committed even though, together, the LFP and the UNFP (the players' union) carry out daily awareness or information campaigns with the clubs", indicates a press release.

PSG goalkeeping coach Guillaume Lemire reportedly received the heaviest penalty: four-match suspension and €1,000 fine.

Five Ligue 1 male players were also sanctioned

Auxerrois goalkeeper Donovan Léon is suspended for five games, three of which are suspended.

Brest striker Irvin Cardona received four matches, two of which were suspended and fined €1,500, while Montpellier's Sacha Delaye, Strasbourg's Ghanaian defender Alexander Djiku and Nantes' Cameroonian defender Jean-Charles Castelletto also been sanctioned according to the French media.
