Germans receive €400,000 incentive to bring home Qatar 2022 trophy

September 29 - German players will get €400,000 if they win the World Cup in Qatar.

Tournament bonuses for the team have been agreed after negotiations with the players. "We had intensive discussions in a good and constructive atmosphere," said DFB President Bernd Neuendorf after a meeting with team representatives Manuel Neuer, Thomas Mueller, Joshua Kimmich and Ilkay Guendogan. "In the end, we found a solution acceptable to everyone."

The Germans will be awarded 400,000 euros if they bring home the trophy a fifth time. That's an increase of €100,000 from their last World Cup triumph in Brazil in 2014 and €50,000 more than in Russia when Germany exited the competition as defending champions in the first turn.

Players will receive €200,000 as runners-up and €150,000 as semi-finalists. They will receive €50,000 for progressing from the group stage and €100,000 in the second round.

In Qatar, Germany will face Spain, Costa Rica and Japan in the group stage and will be keen to regain some pride after their embarrassing campaign at the last World Cup. Hansi Flick's team will open their tournament on November 23 against Japan.

Germany lost to Hungary 1-0 in the Nations League. On Tuesday they take on England at Wembley Stadium to conclude their current Nations League campaign.
