One Day Cup: wins for Middlesex, Gloucs, Sussex, Hants, Lancs, Northants and Yorkshire

Tom Perst of Hampshire had his first century in white-ball or red-ball cricket, but his 181 was just nine runs off his county's best List A score, held by Captain James Vince

Lancashire, Yorkshire and Northants also all scored wins in Group 1.

In Group 2, Gloucestershire, Middlesex and Sussex were victorious.

But the best final was at The Oval, where Surrey seemed to have lost, thought they had won - and then had Matt Dunn beaten in the final to tie with Warwickshire.

The star man of the day, however, was 19-year-old Perst, who reached his first century for Hampshire in any form of cricket, just three weeks after having played in his team's victory in the T20 Blast final at Edgbaston.

"It was pretty special," Prest said. "I really can't believe it. It was just one of those days where everything went well.

" I felt like I really needed to get a score They trusted me to open the stick all last summer and I didn't go over 40 so I felt I had to prove myself in that format and Beckenham was the perfect place to make hay.

"At Beckenham, you never really know what's enough . It's such a fun field to beat, with a fast paced outfield. But we were pretty confident that we would defend him. We've seen the stats that something like 85% of teams win bowling first. But, if you get a score like we did, it's still hard to continue."

Group One

Hampshire spent a sunny afternoon at Beckenham rewriting the county's record books.

Their 163-run win over Kent was their biggest in one-day cricket in six years, thanks to a massive 396-5 aggregate, now their biggest in List A cricket - beating the set 371-4 there. 47 years ago against Glamorgan when Gordon Greenidge and Barry Richards were at their peak.

Hampshire's two greats both did tons that day - and this time the two centurions were Prest a nd Nick Gubbins (117), who shared a second wicket stand of 207.

It was well below of Hampshire's highest second wicket (their highest for all wickets), the unbroken 285 shared by Greenidge and David Turner against Minor Counties South at Amersham, in 1973.

Prest fell just nine points off his county's best List A score, held by Hampshire captain James Vince. But it was more than enough to defuse Kent, who was knocked out for 233, with skipper Alex Blake taking the top score with 62.

Unbeaten Lancashire picked up five points from three games to top the group after Derbyshire pulled away to defeat at Old Trafford.

Local skipper Steven Croft (87 not out) and Rob Jones (70 not out) set record - five unbroken, unbroken wickets of 154 as Lancashire rallied 67-4 to the post 221-4 on slow ground.
