‘Golda’ Trailer: Helen Mirren Becomes Israel’s First Female Prime Minister for Guy Nattiv’s Film

Written by Nicholas Martin, Golda is a thriller set during the 19 tense days of the Yom Kippur War in 1973. Israeli Prime Minister Golda Meir, faced with the potential for Israel's complete destruction, faces overwhelming odds, a skeptical cabinet and a complex relationship with the Secretary of State American Henry Kissinger (Liev Schreiber), with millions of lives at stake.

His relentless leadership and compassion would ultimately decide the fate of his nation and leave him a controversial legacy around the world.

The cast of Golda also includes Camille Cottin (Call My Agent ), Rami Heuberger (Schindler's List), Lior Ashkenzi (Foxtrot), Ellie Piercy (Black Mirror), Ed Stoppard ( Judy), Rotem Keinan, Dvir Benedek, Dominic Mafham, Ben Caplan, Kit Rakusen and Emma Davies.

Golda had its world premiere at the Berlinale in February but recently opened at the Jerusalem Film Festival, something director Nattiv had been waiting for "for this moment".

"It's kind of an Israeli film with an international swagger," the director told < em>Deadline< /em>. "There's another layer that I think non-Israelis don't understand."

Nattiv also spoke about suggestions that the film attempts to rehabilitate Meir's image saying, " What I show is the defeat of Israel, it's the downfall I call it "Golda's Requiem" Everyone gets lost, the heroes of 67, characters like Moshe Dayan, the great hero , the superman of Israel, he receives a slap."

He continued: “It doesn't glorify anything about the Israeli narrative. 'Yom Kippur of' is a term everyone uses here, 'Yom Kippur of Maccabi Tel Aviv', 'Yom Kippur of Eurovision'… It's like Vietnam of Israel.”
