Thor FAQ

I am - Hercules!!

What's his name? "Thor: Love and Thunder."

Who is responsible? “Thor III” director Taika Waititi (“Hunt For The Wilderpeople,” “Things We Do In The Shadows,” “Jojo Rabbit”) is directing from his own script. (Note: while "Thor III" certainly gives the impression that Waititi wrote it, he received no script credit for his 2017 Thor.)

The big news? It may be the most gay Disney film to date. Tessa Thompson returns as lesbitastic king Valkyrie and Korg has two fathers. Will sad and helpless Governor Ron DeSantis try to stop this small fry magnet from flooding Florida multiplexes?

How does it start? In an inhospitable wasteland, a bald alien named Gorr (Christian Bale, who directed the best Batman movie) prays to the gods to save his daughter's life.

What does Disney say? "Thor enlists the help of Valkyrie, Korg, and ex-girlfriend Jane Foster to battle Gorr the Butcher God, who is intent on making the gods disappear."

How is Natalie Portman now Thor? Is it a multiverse variant? No, she's the same girlfriend we met in the first two Thor movies. It's important to note that Jane Foster is now "a Thor", not "The Thor". Thor is Thor too. As one might guess, Foster's character is by far, much better used this time around. Natalie Portman is wonderful, and I love that Thor herself is so much taller than the usual Jane.

Is this new Thor any good?Yes. If you like Waititi's other films, you're almost certain to get a lot out of this one.

Is this the best "solo" Thor movie? I say yes.

Chris Pratt has a hit dinosaur movie right now, doesn't he? How much screen time do Pratt and Karen Gillan and Dave Bautista and the other Guardians of the Galaxy get? Not a ton. When we catch up with Thor, he's lost his beer belly but is still working with Rocket, Groot and Co. In an inspired and hilarious intro sequence, we see the Guardians have little to accomplish when the ripped Odinsson is on the scene. . Pratt and The Guardians are completely gone after 30 minutes, when a call from Sif forces Thor to abandon his teammates.

Wait, Sif is back too? Yes. And Jaime Alexander, a far cry from his "Agents of SHIELD" episode, gets a surprisingly high rating!

Is Zoe Saldana in it? She's not there.

Who is NOT returning from previous Thor movies?Mark Ruffalo, Jeff Goldblum, Tom Hiddleston, Scarlett Johansson, Benedict Cumberbatch, Anthony Hopkins, Clark Gregg, Ray Stevenson, Zachary Levi, Tadanobu Asano, Rene Russo, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje , Christopher Eccleston, Alice Krige, Cate Blanchett and Karl Urban are absent.

IMDb says Liam Hemsworth, Sam Neill, Matt Damon, and Melissa McCarthy play "the Thor actor," "the Odin actor," "the Loki actor," and "the Hel actor." Are these actors in a movie, like Tom Cruise, Kevin Spacey and Danny DeVito in this fake Austin Powers biopic? There is no movie. And it's clear that Neill, Damon and McCarthy aren't playing themselves playing the Asgardians.

How is Russell Crowe as Zeus? Bold, Greek and grotesquely entertaining. The whole sequence involving Crowe and the many other gods is a highlight and destined to become a fan favorite. There's reason to think he'll become a key part of future Marvel movies.

What's great? Hemsworth's main character, who has evolved so wonderfully from his initial Branaghy blandness thanks to the collective efforts of Joss Whedon, Christopher Marcus, Stephen McFeely and Waititi. And I can't stress this enough: Jane, Valkyrie, and Korg - Thor's three main sidekicks this time around - are a gigantic improvement over the Warriors Three, or whatever they were called. Other must-haves include the Jealous Hammer, giant screaming goats, and Zeus' girlfriends. And the famous guitar riffs provided by Saul "Slash" Hudson fit in beautifully here.

What's not so great? Bale's villain is underwhelming and good jokes are rare during the obligatory action sequence that closes the film. (I always like to point comedy book filmmakers to "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2," which featured a final act that was — thanks in large part to Baby Groot and Fleetwood Mac — as hilarious and suspenseful as it was. was captivating and exhilarating.)

How does it end, Spoiler boy? Four ways:

1) "I love you, Uncle Thor."2) "They are simply known as Love & Thunder."3) "Yes, Father," sneers Brett Goldstein.4) "Welcome to Valhalla" , growls another familiar voice.

Thursday. Cinemas.
