ITV presenters Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby

Holly Willoughby, host of this m atin, said "we w never skip a queue" after being accused of skipping the line for the queen's lie.

The ITV presenter and her co-host Phillip Schofield were accused online of avoiding the wait to walk past the Queen's coffin at Westminster Hall.

People stood for many hours in a line that stretched for miles across London.

In a This Morning special about the Queen, Willoughby said their visit was "strictly for reporting purposes".

The social media backlash came after the presenters were spotted on a live stream on Friday broadcasting the lie in state at Westminster Hall.

Speaking on Tuesday morning during a segment recapping events since the Queen's death, Willoughby said she and her co-host were accredited as broadcasters in order to enter the room .

She said, "Like hundreds of accredited broadcasters and journalists, we have received official permission to enter the room.

"This was strictly to report on the event for the millions of people in the UK who were unable to visit Westminster in person.

"The rules were that we would be quickly escorted around the edges to a platform at the back.

"On the other hand, those who respected walked along a carpet next to the coffin and had time to take a break.

"None of the broadcasters and journalists present took the place of anyone else in the queue and no one passed the queen. We of course respected these rules.
